Bach’s motets are among the greatest achievements of Baroque choral polyphony. Friedrich Rochlitz, noted Leipzig musicologist and critic recorded Mozart's reaction to hearing Singet dem Herrn. ‘Hardly had the choir sung a few measures when Mozart sat up and said “What is this?” When the singing was finished he cried out, full of joy, “Now, there is something one can learn from”’.
